Mayor Joy Belmonte expressed how local leaders’ initiatives for climate action inspire global impact, during the United Nations Climate Ambition Summit (UNCAS) C40 Press Conference in New York.
The Mayor emphasized how the city programs, aligned with the QC Enhanced Local Climate Change Action Plan (ELCCAP), provided equitable benefits for the residents, especially the most marginalized.
Among the programs the Mayor discussed are the city’s urban farms, decarbonization strategies through solarization of city-owned buidlings and facilities, energy efficient transportation fleet, and the upcoming passage of the Enhanced Green Building Ordinance.
Belmonte also emphasized how climate financing is important to fully accelerate a green, sustainable, and fossil-fuel-free future.
Along with Mayor Joy is New York City Mayor Eric Adams, Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala, Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, and C40 Cities Executive Director Mark Watts.
Mayor Belmonte, Coun. Joseph Juico, and Climate Change and Environmental Sustanainability Department (CCESD) Head Andrea Villaroman are currently attending the United Nations Climate Ambition Summit (UNCAS) in New York, United States.
