The Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council through Mayor Joy Belmonte approved a resolution providing humanitarian assistance to the province of Abra and Vigan City, Ilocos Sur after a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit both provinces, including Metro Manila and some areas in Luzon.

According to the provincial DRRM Council of Abra, more than 2,000 families and 5,000 individuals were affected by the earthquake in Abra and 67 families and 235 individuals in Vigan City.

The resolution aims to provide humanitarian assistance to the affected areas through the provision of camp management supplies, mental health and psychosocial services, and the conduct of rapid damage assessment and needs analysis (RDANA).

The Provincial Government of Abra and the City Government of Vigan will each receive 250 Partition Tents, 500 Hygiene Kits, 500 First Aid Kits, 500 COVID Kits, food and kitchen supplies in aid of camp coordination and camp management, a team of social workers to distribute hot meals, a team of health workers for Mental Health and Psychosocial Services, and one RDANA team from the QC DRRMC. Team Vigan and Team Abra will leave Quezon City before dawn tomorrow, Saturday.

Earlier the QC DRRM Council conducted a special meeting to assess the needs of affected areas in order to determine the aid to be brought by the city government.

“Taos-puso po kaming nakikiramay sa mga pamilyang lubhang naapektuhan ng lindol nitong nakaraang Miyerkules. Hangad po namin na magkaroon kayo ng katatagan ng loob sa kabila ng trahedya at krisis na inyong kinakaharap,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

“Kami naman sa Pamahalaang Lungsod Quezon ay handang mag-abot ng tulong sa mga probinsya at lungsod na higit na nangangailangan,” the mayor added.
