Mayor Joy Belmonte stressed the crucial role of multilevel collaboration, to effectively address challenges posed by climate change during the 20th Global Major Groups and Stakeholders Forum.

Mayor Belmonte highlighted how Quezon City is working with all stakeholders to attain success in the city’s climate programs. As a result, initiatives are inclusive, impactful, and redound to the benefit of the most vulnerable members of the community.

The mayor also explained that united action at all levels of government and society is important to achieve a green, sustainable, and livable future for all.

Local governments like Quezon City are also recognized as primary actors in implementing climate programs in the community, but are often impeded by insufficient resources and financial support.

Mayor Belmonte, Coun. Vito Sotto Generoso, and Kristine Lea Sy-Gaon of Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department (CCESD) is currently in Nairobi, Kenya to attend the sixth United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-6) Cities and Regions Summit.

The mayor, earlier hailed as the 2023 UNEP Champion of the Earth, will also serve as the summit rapporteur in the UNEA-6 on February 26.
