The Quezon City government wjill implement a partial truck ban along areas in Visayas and Mindanao Avenues under its territorial jurisdiction to ease traffic congestion, especially during rush hour.
Mayor Joy Belmonte announced on Thursday that she approved Ordinance No. SP-2984, S-2020, prohibiting trucks and other heavy vehicles from traversing the said major roads from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
“Naging paborito nang daanan ng truck ang mga nasabing kalsada dahil mas madali silang nakararating sa iba ibang lugar sa kamaynilaan,” said Belmonte.
“Subalit nauuwi naman ito sa pagsisikip ng daloy ng trapiko, lalo na tuwing rush hour, na nakakaabala sa ibang mga motorista pati na sa commuter. Kaya nagpasya tayong magpatupad ng partial truck ban,” she added.
Under the Ordinance introduced by Majority Floor Leader Franz Pumaren and Councilors Donato Matias, Eric Medina and Victor Ferrer Jr., trucks and other heavy vehicles will not be allowed to pass the said routes during those times, in accordance with the modified truck ban policy of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
Covered by the ban are trucks with six or more wheels, regardless of purpose, nature or use, and other vehicles classified by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) as heavy vehicles, such as buses.
Belmonte however clarified that the truck ban will not be enforced during Sundays and declared regular or special holidays.
Exempted from the provisions of the Ordinance are fire trucks, garbage/hauling/dump truck, police/military truck or bus, and other similar motor vehicles owned by or under contract with the government for rendering public service works.
Violators will be fined P5,000 or imprisonment of one year, or both, at the discretion of the court.
The Ordinance has tasked the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Traffic Department and member of the MMDA to strictly implement the partial truck ban.
