As cities have gathered to discuss actions to half fossil fuel use by 2030, Mayor Joy Belmonte has showcased how the city accelerates its transition to clean and affordable energy while driving the creation of good, green jobs.
During the Mayoral Roundtable Discussion at the United Nations Climate Ambition Summit (UNCAS) New York Climate Week 2023, Mayor Belmonte highlighted the Quezon City Enhanced Local Climate Change Action Plan that details city’s initiatives to attain carbon neutrality, promote green economic development, and ensure a high-quality living environment for all residents.
She explained that the city’s just transition to clean energy prioritizes the people, to ensure that it is inclusive and responsive to their needs.
The city has ensured the economic sustainability of the electric tricycles for drivers, while the Green Building Ordinance has considered the inclusivity and friendly-business environment for establishments in its implementation approach.
Also present in the discussion were Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai Iqbal Singh Chahal, Mayor of Dhaka Atiqul Islam, Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala, C40 Cities Executive Director Mark Watts, and C40 Managing Director of Inclusion and Global Leadership Caterina Sarfatti.
Mayor Belmonte has joined other top global leaders for the United Nations Climate Ambition Summit (UNCAS) in New York. She leads the QC delegation including Coun. Joseph Juico, and Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department (CCESD) Head Andrea Villaroman.
