Description

NDH is a local government-owned and mandated hospital, currently licensed by the Department of Health as a Level 1 hospital with a 30-authorized bed capacity. NDH, an ISO 9001:2015 certified health facility, commits itself to maintain safe and quality healthcare service delivery.

Provides basic, emergency, inpatient, and outpatient medical care via departmentalized clinical services, nursing, ancillary, and patient support services mainly, but are not limited to the residents of the 5th District of the Quezon City, residents of the entire city, and neighboring catchment areas.

Legal Bases

NDH is a City government-owned and controlled hospital mandated by virtue of City Ordinance No. SP-997 S.2001, and SP-1002 S.2001 to render basic and emergency healthcare services to the residents of greater Novaliches area and the 5th District of Quezon City that extends to its neighboring communities and catchment areas.

A HUMAN MILK BANK FACILITY OPENS AT NOVALICHES DISTRICT HOSPITAL

The NDH Human Milk Bank was formally opened with a blessing and inaugural ceremony spearheaded by the City Mayor Ma. Josefina G. Belmonte, OIC Medical Director Dr. Luzviminda Kwong, Milk Bank chairperson Dr. Grace Fabon on November 5, 2021, in the presence of key officials and honorable guests, Kap. Dong Pascual, Cong. Alfred Vargas, Coun. PM Vargas, Coun. Shay Liban, Coun. Ram Medalla, Coun. Jose Visaya, and Kap. Jonel Quebal.

This project is entered by the city in partnership with the Rotary Club of Biak na Bato. It is a hallmark enunciation of the Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital advocacy which aims among others, the promotion of breast milk, its nutritional value, and multiple benefits particular to mother and/or child who cannot breastfeed.

Inclined to the spirit of Quezon City Ordinance No. SP-2195, S.2012 as amended by SP-2238, S.2013 mandating the establishment of a Human Milk Bank in all Quezon City government-owned hospitals, this facility serves to address the limitations and barriers against breastfeeding by making pasteurized breast milk available to QCitizens, thus, reinforcing the services of the Quezon City Human Milk Bank.

GATAS NG INA, DULOT AY PAG-ASA: A SUCCESSFUL MILK LETTING ACTIVITY

On August 31, 2023, Thursday, NDH hosted an inspiring event in purposeful commemoration of the Breastfeeding Awareness Month, with sixty-three (63) mothers from various districts of Quezon City successfully donating 4,340 ml of human breast augmenting the current pool of human milk. Collaborating with the Quezon City Human Milk Bank and the Quezon City Health Department of District 5, this activity aimed to promote and support breastfeeding initiatives.

KNOW YOUR RISK, KNOW YOUR RESPONSE – AN IMPACTFUL CELEBRATION OF THE WORLD DIABETES DAY

The NDH Diabetic Circle of Friends is a support group for diabetic patients that provides quality, affordable, and accessible diabetic healthcare prioritizing on extending aid to the vulnerable groups such as, but not limited to, economically disadvantaged, pregnant women, and senior citizens. This social innovation also serves as a support group for diabetic patients, and helps raise awareness on the complications of diabetes among their families and communities. 

On November 15, 2023, in commemoration of World Diabetes Day under the theme “Know Your Risk, Know Your Response,” an enriching and impactful lecture empowered the patients, clinical staff, and members of the Diabetic Circle of Friends, to understand, manage, and prevent diabetes. A community outreach was held in collaboration with Barangay San Bartolome at Odelco Subdivision on the following day, with clinical and nursing staff conducting a medical mission with emphasis on diabetes screening, serving a total number of 65 patients. 

IHOMIS: AN ONGOING EFFORT TOWARDS DIGITIZATION OF HOSPITAL OPERATIONS

As part of its commitment to fostering quality and operational efficiency in addition to complying the regulatory requirement for Electronic Medical Records, the hospital initiated the adoption of Integrated Hospital Operations Management Information System (IHOMIS) through the technical provision of the Department of Health- Knowledge Management and Information Technology Services (DOH KMITS) early in 2023.

The DOH KMITS conducted an orientation in August 2023. Under the process ownership of the NDH Information Technology Section and oversight of the Steering Committee and Continuous Quality Improvement Unit, Computer and Hardware Set-up, Simulation and intensive training was completed. With ongoing module library build-up and pending assessment by the DOH-KMITS, full operationalization of the IHOMIS is expected by the first quarter of 2024.

The system is also expected to be integrated with the City-wide health information system in close coordination with the QC Information Technology and Development Department, City Administrator, and other city-owned health facilities, with the goal of establishing interoperability and data portability towards better healthcare service delivery.

AWARDS & RECOGNITIONS

On December 27, 2023, the Quezon City Government conferred a COVID-19 Vaccination Champion Award to Novaliches District Hospital in recognition of its outstanding efforts in combating the COVID-19 pandemic through vaccination. This award is a valuable memento of the hospital’s accomplishments and contributions to the campaign against vaccine hesitancy and to the City’s COVID-19 Vaccine Deployment Program.

Revisiting the hospital’s performance status in terms of Integrated Hospital Operations and Management Program, the Department of Health, Metro Manila Center for Health Development Health Facility Development Bureau, visited NDH on November 16, 2023. The appraisal examined the status of the hospital operations in six key result areas: Governance, Ethics and Patients’ Rights, Quality Measurement and Improvement, Patient Safety, Facility Safety and Emergency Management, and Resource Management, with emphasis on the resolution and compliance with the findings and recommendations upheld during the previous IHOMP visit last August 31, 2022. 

NDH garnered a total score of ninety-eight (98) out of 100 points surpassing its previous score of ninety-two (92). This means that the health facility has sustained its good practices and its compliance with the minimum requirements set by the DOH.   

FROM 92 TO 98: Sustaining Commitment to Integrated Hospital Operations and Management Program (2022-2023)

The Hospital Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit at Novaliches District Hospital received a prestigious Plaque of Recognition (Outstanding Disease Reporting Unit) for its exemplary performance in disease reporting and public health surveillance. Acknowledged for its unwavering commitment to excellence, the unit consistently met reporting deadlines while delivering accurate and comprehensive information to the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (QCESU). The award was conferred on December 14, 2023, at Novotel Manila in Araneta, Cubao, Quezon City.
