Partnership for Healthy Cities Summit Roundtable Discussion

To explore the state of public health and noncommunicable disease (NCD) and injury prevention, Mayors participated in a roundtable discussion at the Partnership for Healthy Cities Summit.

They talked about the best practices, opportunities, and challenges their cities are facing.

Present in the roundtable discussion were Governor Claudio Orrego Larraín of Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile, Mayor Chilando Chitangala of Lusaka, Zambia, Mayor Se-hoon Oh of Seoul, South Korea, Mayor Carolina Mejía of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Mayor Jose Sarto of Fortaleza, Brazil, Mayor Samuel Pyne of Kumasi, Ghana, Mayor Balendra Shah of Kathmandu, Nepal, Mayor Ana Carolina Cosse of Montevideo, Uruguay, Mayor Kiritkumar Jivanlal Parmar of Ahmedabad, India, Mayor Erias Lukwago of Kampala, Uganda, Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis of Athens, Greece, Mayor Sadiq Khan of London, United Kingdom, and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.

Mayor Joy Belmonte mentioned some of the City’s programs such as Health School Canteen Ordinance (no sugary drinks and junk foods in schools), Healthy Public Food Procurement, Food surplus program in partnership with Scholars of Sustenance, and the creation of Calorie Labelling Policy with Vital Strategies and Imagine Law, under the Partnership for Healthy Cities program where Quezon City was chosen as one of the recipients of technical assistance.

Organized by the Bloomberg Philanthropies, World Health Organization (WHO), and Vital Strategies, the Summit will highlight the best practices implemented by various cities in the world to prevent NCDs and maintain the health and safety of citizens in their respective communities.
